Announcing: The God Of Fighters [ GOF ]

Finally, a secretive mega tournament that was fought 20 years ago in one obscured computer will now reborn into the new world: The God of Fighter is back!

Hi everyone, I’m WalkingProblem.

The God Of Fighter was tournament that I hold among my hundreds or even thousand over characters in my MUGEN around 20 years ago – in the rather, early days of MUGEN.

The tournament is tracked on paper and fought over weeks, in a massive knock out tournament – similar to the Dragon Ball Z’s Tenkaichi Budōkai. Epic fights were fought and legends were born. I kept the copy of my MUGEN for over a decade… until unfortunately a few years ago, all the data were lost when my backup harddisk died just days apart from my main computer harddisk (along with 2-3 years of my professional work data).

Returning to MUGEN after 20 years is very daunting. The database of characters had grown tremendously, but at the same time, many of the download links for classic characters are gone. Some character-makes which I loved cannot be found, while others no longer worked and fought the same way.

Just Akuma/Gouki alone, I managed to find almost 60 working variants – creating a massive headache on, which Akuma/Gouki should be the “REAL” Akuma/Gouki to be represented in the GOF. This problem extends to most of the most popular characters, included Ryu, Ken, Kyo, K, Orochi, etc….

Watching Loki and how the events in the show resulted in the “breakage” of the “Sacred Timeline” – I got inspired: perhaps, MUGEN universe is in fact a “multi-verse”. And that, each variants of Akuma/Gouki are variants from different timelines/universe ; which then brought me to rename almost everyone of them according to a combination of their original name and their makers/editors – just to allow every character to be identifiable and have their own soul.

And thus I created the Akuma-Gouki League.

The Akuma-Gouki League will be the first step in a long long journey to create the biggest fighting tournament in the history of MUGEN-kind – all shall be broadcast on Twitch and Youtube for all to witness the drama and intrigue.

May GOF brings new heroes and create new legends in the world of fighting games fighters / MUGEN.
